pilgrim [Monday December 14, 1am]
[ mood | FAT, FULL, accomplished :) ]

OMAGAAAAAAAAAAAHD
at the rate I'm eating, i'm going to roll into London, roll back to Singapore and roll around for Christmas.
I'm eating and eating and not exercising :O!
SOO RIDIC
& my throat and sneezy nose have both gotten so bad they hurt almost all the time but I ignore their pleas and continue to scoff my face with chocolate and all things sinful. I AM FAIL.

I've concluded that I really really like Scotland and am not eager for Wednesday to arrive at all
I love the people, food, cafes, dogs and walking friendly climate. The only thing I have an issue with are those disgustingly cold and windy days which leave me freezing :(

Whatever it is, the (main) point of today's post is to make an announcement:

my scones pilgrimage has begun!

After a tiring day of shopping (did i mention? my luggage is full already and I still have 10 more days in the UK, I haven't even gotten to London!) my mushroom & onion with pesto crepe from the German Christmas Market yesterday,

(Y) NEW HEELS! :) Been looking around for a pair of brown heels for ages, and these fitted my feet nicely and were comfy AND reasonably priced!

I proceeded to Kilimanjaro Cafe for an Apricot Scone with Raspberry jam *droolworthy*
It was so bloody good I think I almost cried while slathering chunks of it with jam and devouring them one by one.

This after a lunch which left me filled to the brim. I FAIL, indeed.
For lunch, Gill, Charis and I (three IJ primary girls!) made our way through the mist towards to the Farmers Market, which only opens on Saturdays, for some fresh produce, food and fun :)
I wound up with a giant bowl of Venision haggis with mashed potato & carrots, finished it off with a bowl of piping hot oats topped off with toasted muesli and raspberries.

The ever greedy me (of course) couldn't resist the lure of buffalo burgers when we were walking out of the market despite being filled to the brim

£3.50, but very very yummy. Topped off with caramelized onions, this has gotta be one of the best burgers I've ever had!

The scones pilgrimage continued today after Gill and I attended mass at the University of Edinburgh's Catholic chapel at Deacon's cafe.
Unlike Kilimanjaro, they had plain scones and I got one with raspberry jam ^^ & also tried their apple pie, which turned out to be pretty zesty and quite yummy all together!

Along the way, we also met a Scotsman busker playing the bagpipe in a skirt! kilt! & in typical tourist fashion, i gave him a pound so that I could take a legit photo with him ^^ yay.

this makes him the second guy I've seen in a kilt thus far and the first bagpipe player around!

We also popped by this amazing store known as "chocolate soup" which served the meanest and best Hot chocolate mint I've ever had. zomg it totally murdered my throat though :(

zomgosh! & GUESS WHAT I GOT FOR DINNER?!
(like finally) INDIAN TAKEOUT! :) I've been dying to try the Indian food here for the longest time, ever since I heard about Indian food from the admissions officer in Singapore!

I got some giant lamb curry serving with plain naan from this place called chilli connection & it was all reaaaally good and yummy. I basically slathered up every bit of it, killed my throat, but enjoyed it so much.
It's been 3 hours since I had dinner and I'm still so bloated I feel like I'm about to burst any time soon O_O

( I CUT GILL's FRINGEE!- shld so totally quit law school and go try out hairdressing)

Look at my giant papadum! & my super yummy lamb curry :)

(Y) I had a pear and almond tart after my hugeee Indian takeout meal at 9.30pm.

day 2 [Saturday December 12, 1am]
My throat hasn't gotten any better despite my efforts to cure it with honey water and lozenges. In fact, it's gotten worse from my irresponsible eating habits and inability to control my greed.
AH WELL...

So yes, besides a nose which perpetually runs (and is super sore and red, I look like rudolf the red-nosed reindeer without a shadow of a doubt) and a bad cough, I now have an extreeeeemely sore throat which refuses to be soothed :( boo.

WIth my sniffy red nose and terrible throat/ cough, Gill and I ventured out into the misty streets of Edinburgh (It was so misty we couldn't see a building 80m away from us)

Prime example of what the streets looked like today.
According to Gill, this basically marks the start of winter in Edinburgh

& (Y) we made my maiden trip to a Starbucks in the UK/ Edinburgh today much to my delight

Skinny cranberry and orange muffin

(in the picture on the right, at the bottom right corner of the picture, Gill and I were convinced that one of the ladies drinking coffee there was JK Rowling- so Gill and I proceeded to go say hi and asked her to take a picture with us... she took a picture for us instead.
Turns out she looked too old to be JK Rowling, even though she looked a lot like her!, and she didn't press the camera button hard enough and didn't take the picture lol WIN)

Bobby the famous Scottish dog!
(speaking of which, I miss my budster super badly :( )

I also managed to coerce Gill to go ice-skating with me at the Edinburgh Christmas Fair :) [Y]
i love ice-skating and jump at every opportunity I have to ice skate-! OUTDOOR ICE SKATING! YOU CAN NEVER DO THAT IN SINGAPORE!

LOL I personally think that Gill looks like Patrick Starfish here- yes no maybe?

I was also freezing to death while Gill cldn't control her skates.
Picture on the right: Gill," I CAN"T STOP MOOOVVVINGGG!!!" epic moment, I spent most of my night laughing at the photo and killing my throat -.-

& then it was back to the German Christmas Market :) For food, random fun and ridiculous amounts of laughter

SUPER AWESOME APPLE STRUDEL
[Y] I love apple pastries, all apple pastries! :) Especially when they're fresh from the oven in the winter cold

I got Fire Punch and a Bratwurst sandwich! :D
Quite ridiculous, but I got the punch primarily for the mug (which I paid a £2 deposit for)
& the Bratwurst... ohhh don't get me started, if only it didn't affect my throat that badly T_T

[Y] Edinburgh in Christmas :)

oops. [Friday December 11, 1am]
[ mood | sleepy ]

It's the admissions office for international students!!

Good news: I'm no longer running a fever!

Bad news 1: I've now got a bad sore throat and a hacking cough!
Bad news 2: I think I've gained a good 3 kg already (FROM TWO DAYS HERE!)

Here's a review as to why I'm falling sick and why I'm gaining so much weight.

Gill & I started off today with a normal bowl of cereal and milk FOR HER and a ham sandwich and ice cream for me...I FAIL

Idk how long ago it was, but I knew at one point of time I wanted to import Skinny Cow into Singapore
Much to my delight, Gill brought out that box containing ice cream goodness from her freezer yesterday morning much to my delight and glee, I proceeded to stuff my face with ice cream (Y)

We went on to go visit the campus of University of Edinburgh, and I had an internal debate regarding the benefits of reapplying through UCAS.
It's beaaaautfil! :)
OH & we each had a pack of chips and 2 scoops of ice cream each for lunch (healthy lifestyle ftw!)-- I had mandarin & dark chocolate flaked ice cream in a freaking waffle cone

THIS IS THEIR LAW SCHOOL CAMPUS. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!

&& THE BIRTH PLACE OF HARRY POTTERRR!!!:)

& then we went.. SHOPPPPPINNGGGG! :) I got a new black skirts, random items and spotted like a million other things I fully intend to purchase :P

In typical Valerie fashion, I of course overspent and foresee myself being dead broke before I even arrive in London, Well done Val! =.=

OH! & DINNER?!
We each had a chocolate kiss (imagine a waffle cone base, filled with fluffy soft marshmallow, coated with chocolate and nuts *drools*)
and a venision burgee from a stall in the market- it was awesome

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE CHRISTMAS MARKET!!!! :)
